Accessibility

Stroke Sight and ReWrite are built for people recovering after a stroke — often with one working hand, changed vision, and limited energy. Accessibility is not an add-on to that; it is the job. This page says honestly where the apps and this website are, and what is still to do.

What the apps do today

Both apps ship with these; nothing here needs a special version or an extra purchase:

• One-handed by design: every screen and every exercise works with a single hand — that is the situation the apps were built for.
• Dark mode in both apps, with a one-tap toggle.
• Large Letter Mode in ReWrite: a larger target box and size scoring in every exercise, for anyone whose writing or vision needs bigger shapes.
• A visual display setting in Stroke Sight, because a stroke can change how colours are perceived — choose the mode that suits your eyes.
• Adjustable pacing: ReWrite lets you set how many exercises make up a session; Stroke Sight's difficulty, speed and number of passes are adjustable per exercise.
• Fully offline after installation — no connection, no account, no sign-in to fail.
• Reduced motion respected: when your device asks for reduced motion, animations in both apps and on this website are switched off.
• Screen-reader labels on buttons and controls throughout both apps, improved in recent updates.
• 19 languages, with language-specific writing content rather than translated filler. Honest caveat: our translations are machine-assisted and still awaiting full native-speaker review — corrections are gratefully received.
• Nothing to manage: no account, no passwords, and all data stays on the device.

This website

The site uses the Atkinson Hyperlegible typeface, designed by the Braille Institute for low-vision readers, with skip-to-content links, visible keyboard focus outlines, semantic headings, and the same respect for reduced-motion settings as the apps.

What is not done yet

An honest list, with dates rather than promises of perfection:

• The tracing canvas in ReWrite is inherently visual and touch-based: it cannot be used with a screen reader alone. We say this plainly rather than claim otherwise.
• Neither the apps nor this website has completed a formal WCAG 2.2 AA self-assessment, so we do not claim conformance. A full self-assessment of the website is planned, expected by the end of 2026.
• A three-step interface text-size setting (menus and buttons, beyond ReWrite's Large Letter Mode) is already built and arrives in the next app update for both apps, expected August 2026.
• Native-speaker review of all 19 languages is under way and continues through 2026.
